MARIA LEGIONIS
TALKING POINTS
Promoters: Use one of these points at each
of your monthly council meetings to encourage members to subscribe!
- The Maria
Legionis magazine publishes and encourages the missionary activity of
the world-wide Legion. Most legionaries donate to mail appeals from
Missionary Societies while the Legion, one of the most effective Missionary
organizations in the Church, gets almost no financial support for its
magazine from its own membership. The magazine costs only $6! Why don’t
legionaries send a $6 donation to their own organization and receive 4
issues of a worthwhile magazine in return?
- Why is the
financial sacrifice of the member to the secret bag collection and to the
Maria Legionis so disproportionate to the sacrifice of the member’s time
and effort to the weekly meeting and assignment? Contributing generously to
the secret bag each week and regularly renewing your Maria Legionis
subscription are reflections of your Legion commitment.
- In today’s world,
the cost of one movie which lasts two or three hours is MORE than the cost
of one year’s worth of Maria Legionis, which has permanent value to
the legionary, supplying him with information, news and inspiration.
- The Legion is
blessed with three candidates for canonization and every legionary should
learn as much as they can about them. The Maria Legionis is the
primary source for the latest information on the status of their causes.
- According to the
handbook, loyalty is one virtue each legionary should strive for. Even if
you are someone who does not normally subscribe to periodicals, you can show
your loyalty to the Legion by subscribing to Maria Legionis.
- Maria Legionis
comes in a handy size. Take it with you anywhere and read it while you
wait.
- Are there generous
legionaries in our council who would be willing to promote the magazine by
purchasing extra copies to distribute or by giving gift subscriptions to
friends?
- What will you miss
if you don’t subscribe? Legion history, Frank Duff’s writings, new Legion
works, Legion weddings, news about Legion anniversary celebrations
world-wide, devotional items, your Legion family photo album, legionaries at
work and play, ideas and Legion spirit-builders.
- Don’t get left
behind! As the Legion develops, new advances are found in Maria Legionis
before they make it to the handbook. For example, when the work of
Bookbarrow was first developed, the news appeared in the Legion magazine
before it was included in the Legion handbook.
- Legionaries often
refer to the handbook as the Legion “bible”. In reality, since the Legion
has two publications, the handbook could be considered the Legion “old
testament” and the magazine, the Legion “new testament”. The “acts of the
apostles” are still happening! Subscribe and find out what’s going on!!
- Maria Legionis
is a great recruiting tool! Its appearance and content show the Legion in
an attractive light. The compact size, the color photos, and the superb
graphics match any contemporary publication. The articles exhibit the
wonderful spirit which is evoked in people when they become legionaries.
Distribute it to all the Catholics you know! If they like the magazine,
chances are they’ll like the Legion!
- Legion information
comes in a two-part set. If you only have the handbook, you don’t have it
all! Every legionary should have a subscription to Maria Legionis.
If you like to read, you’ll enjoy the fact that it has no irrelevant
articles and no ads. It’s ALL Legion! If you don’t like to read, buy it
anyway, out of loyalty, and spread the Legion spirit by passing it on.
